Yesterday I arrived I arrived in Glasgow. From the very start I felt Glasgow was the city for me. Maybe part of it had to do with my friend Jen who took me around the city.
Jen and I met each other in University when we were both in the Psychology student association. Jen is doing her masters program in education here in Glasgow as an exchange student with OISE back in Toronto. She also is going to have the coolest job when she goes back to Toronto. She is going to be working with students as a mentor/counsellor with the office of student life in U of T.
Since my plane arrived very early at 8:30am we had lots of time to explore and catch up. Jen took me to the Glasgow museum, the Glasgow university and of course we had to try Haggis the traditional Scottish fare!
It was an amazing day and everything was just the best! The museum was highly entertaining and I spent hours just in the weapons/history section alone. I would probably rank it as the best museum I have been to, right up there with the trick art museum in Seoul. Part of it has to do with the fact that it is very visual and well displayed. The texts are very large, kid friendly but offer you just the right amount of information to keep you entertained.
The Glasgow university was another great visit. The university is ranked the 4th oldest in UK being built in the 1uth century. You can really see the history even from the external façade. We walked around the beautiful campus and I saw the opportunity for some climbing in one of the service ladders used for repairs.
Finally we ended the day with some Haggis from the local joint recommended by Jen. Haggis is the traditional Scottish food. It is minced meat stuffed in a stomach sack and cooked with spices. The restaurant we went to actually didn't present the food with the sack but it was delicious all the same and really not disgusting at all like what other people have told me.
Later in the evening I met some friends of Jens who were having a party in the common room. It was great fun and we all got along really easily. In particular I met Tom who is an exchange student from Marseilles. So I might have a couch when I go there for my bike trip at the end of this month ☺.
All in all a really great start to my UK Glasgow tour!
Peace from Glasgow.
