Cannes ! And Nico!

I arrived in Cannes yesterday without problem.  The city is abuzz with festival fever.  There are beautiful people everywhere you go and the red carpet was on in the evening.

The ride over was beautiful again.  I had some trouble with speed first because there was a strong headwind.  That quickly subsided once I got past Nice's borders. I also had a scare when I went onto a highway by accident and had to jump across a railing with my bike.  Going through the midlane of oncoming traffic was not fun.  In any case I made it to Cannes after about 2 hours of cycling.

I also found a way to eat for cheap.  Around Antibes I found a supermarket and they had free samples!  I ate a whole sushi player by myself for free!  I also bought some seafood tapas for the road.  Omg the tapas were just amazing and so cheap to at only 5 euros.

I dropped off my stuff at Nicos place once I arrived.  Nico was working at the time so I met his parents first: Dede and Martine.  They are so nice and welcoming.  They kept giving me more stuff and offering me things I felt so overwhelmed with their love!  They treated me like i was their own family.

As I walked around Cannes I saw all the festival stuff.  Like the red carpet and all the movie installations.  Even though I didn't know any of the famous people at the red carpet.  It was apparently some French actors.

While walking around on the beach I met Suriyani. She is Malaysian and 46 years old but looks like she is in her 30s. She is a jewelry manager for Chopped boutique (a jewelry store)  in Malaysia and is in Cannes for 2 days to take her client the Princess of some country to the red carpet.  This is literally her job! Go to exciting places and meet clients.  Anyways we hit it off and she said if I ever come to Malaysia she can show me around!

Around 10pm Nico was finished with his job.  He works for festival as a chauffeur.  So I met up with him in Radisson Blu on the top deck with an amazing view of the city!  It was great catching up again.  We had last met in Quebec the year before.  I know Nico from rock climbing.  And I would have never thought I would be able to see him again so soon!  He had went to Vancouver and Alberta to look for a helicopter job and I hooked him up with Rannie to show him around.  Now Nico has found a job in Nice after the festival and I am so happy for him!

I also met Nicos friends Mariée and Kevin.  Mariée is an architect from Brazil who has been in France for 6 years.  Kevin is also from Quebec but he lives in Cannes now as a tourist helicopter pilot.  It was really great to meet them and we had loads to talk about -  in French! I told them my whole story of the trip and how I got here.  They were so interested.

The rooftop was dying down and we changed venues to a nearby bar where we met 3 film students from LA. Two of them has films being shown in the festival actually in the short film category.  And back in LA James Franco is their teacher!  For those interested the films are called: Steam Dream,  and Locksmith.
It's crazy how many interesting people are in Cannes.  We finished the night at 4am!

Suriyani and I. She is 46 if you can believe it!!!!
