I left Bath early morning at 4am to go to Cambridge to meet my friend Kenny.
Kenny is a friend from my explore days in Canada. We had studied in Saskatoon one summer many years ago. I haven't seen him since then so it was great catching up. He has really traveled a lot having been to 41 countries. And now he is studying his masters in Cambridge one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
It was great having Kenny as my guide for my stay there. He took me to all the different colleges which are usually either pay to enter or simply not open to the public. Kenny also had a membership to the local punting club. Punting is using a stick to push a gondola down a river. So we went punting for half a day and it was definitely the highlight of my Cambridge stay. I even got to try out driving the boat myself and it is harder than it looks!
It was a really jarring experience when I toured around Cambridge having just come from Bristol. Cambridge is such a posh place, everyone is so well educated and refined and conservative values and tradition are part of the whole place. Meanwhile Bristol is at the forefront of the counter culture movement and very much against tradition and breaking away from the mold. I am still debating which one I'm more leaning towards myself. They are definitely on opposite ends of the spectrum that is for sure.
Kenny also lent me his bike and I toured around Cambridge by bike the second day and it was amazing!
The weather was perfect.
