Today I went to the........ Wait for it....... Beach again haha!
So my couchsurfer Gilles had to do some work on his boat. Luckily for me it was on the way to the old town and the National Park so I got to see both in one day.
Martigues old town is a little Island surrounded by two Rivers on both sides. It has the feeling of le petite France in Strasbourg, except with Southern architecture and palm trees. I walked around the area for about an hour and bought some snacks for my trip to the National Park.
Gilles dropped me off at the edge of the park. To get in I had to take a ferry across, luckily for me it was free for bikes. The ride was very quick, it took less than 5 minutes. Once I was inside the park I got on my trusty bike and went to the nearest beach which was 15kms away.
The ride over gave me some cool views of the park. It is really a huge marshland and I can see the sea meeting the fresh water to create the local fauna. Luckily for me it was flat all the way.
The beach itself had very fine sand and I took a dip in the amazingly warm waters before relaxing and finishing my book.
In the evening i came back with Gilles and had another amazing home-cooked dinner by Anne Marie. She made Farcie which is a dish with meat ontop of grills tomatoes and eggplants.
Me, Anne Marie and Gilles |
Peace from Martigues.
