Martinque and stressful ride

I left today bright and early from Loïc's place at 9am. I arrived around 1pm even though the ride was only 45km long.

The ride over was filled with precarious situations.  Marseilles as a city is terrible for bikes. There are no dedicated bike paths and getting out of the city is a nightmare.  Following Google maps lead me onto a 4 lane Highway; by the time I realized I was already too far in.  So i kept going and rode for another km with the rush hour traffic or and found an exit ramp.  This detour took me up a straight incline and back down again.  After about 1 hour of cursing the roads and pushing my bike I finally found my way back to the highway again.  Now that I was out of Marseilles it was much calmer and the D5 turned back to something I am more familiar with -  a semi highway.

I finally reached my couchsurfers place around 1pm. Gilles and Anne Marie are two newly retired physiotherapists who live in Martinque.  They gave me a room all to myself and welcomed me with open arms.

Since it was still early in the day I decided to go to my favourite place -  the beach.  They gave me some scuba équipement to use to see the fishies. But I didn't have any time for that as I relaxed and read on the book.

Finally I came home and ate Ratatouille and home cooked pizza with my hosts.
