Friends in La Grau du Roi.

I left yesterday morning from Arles after saying goodbye to Muriel and her airbnb guests.  I was bound for La Grau du Roi in the south of Arles and about 30km from Montpellier.

I had a scorching day with temperatures ranging upwards of 27 degrees.  The ride over was full of miles upon miles of flat planes which I was grateful for,  but the vegetation left one wanting.  There was very few tall tress and that made finding a rest spot difficult as even a couple of minutes in the sun caused me to melt.  I made several stops along the way finding little fruit stands and various outposts of civilization.

Around 4pm I arrived at Aiguë Morts a medieval town from the 13th century.  It was surprisingly well preserved and as I learned from my free entrance into the castle ramparts -  it was Frances first port into the Mediterranean.  King Louis IV left for two crusades from this very port.  I strolled around casually and took in the impressive sights before heading on for my final destination La Grau du Roi.

My friends Lio and Denis live in La Grau du Roi.  I met them originally in St.  Tropez when we all stayed in our host Aurélien's place.  Denis and Lio are original from Belgium and are traveling the world by working odd jobs.  They just finished a 2 month stint here and they are going to another place in the south to work and travel!

When I arrived it was already around 5pm. They showed me to their apartment right in the center of the city above a restaurant.  We went for a little walk,  had a wonderful home cooked dinner together by Denis and hangout at a friend of theirs. We watched the French version of survivor.  I am usually not one for reality shows but talking with people about it is really interesting and learning new words in the process is definitely a plus.

Today we went to the beach and I just relaxed and read there for 5 hours straight!  What can I say I guess I am addicted to the beach life.

Tomorrow I head for Montpellier.

Aigues Mortes a medieval town that has been really well preserved. I passed by it and took a quick 1 hour tour around the town.
